Featured Family Member - James Herbert Cavanaugh


 

Known as Herbert to his family, he was born in Saint John, N.B. the son of James Cavanaugh and Margaret Cahill. Herbert was the grandson of Matthew Cavanaugh and Susan McCabe who emigrated from Ireland in 1847. On July 27, 1915, he married Annie Franceour at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. They had 11 children, 8 of whom survived into adulthood.

Herbert worked for the Cotton Mill, first in Saint John and when that closed his family moved to Milltown and he worked in the Cotton Mill there. He was considered one of the best plaid weavers in the Mill. In 1904, Herbert was a member of the No. 1 Company of Hibernian Knights, Ancient Order of Hibernians of Saint John, N.B.

Herbert died May 09, 1959 in Milltown, N.B. and was buried in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Milltown, N. B
